Power Infrastructure –safe and auto-adaptive power chains

Eaton Power Infrastructure layers include our intrinsically safe power chain hardware, with auto-adaptive technology and engineering knowledge to significantly improve energy efficiency while optimizing CAPEX.

The first level comprises Eaton’s hardware components and techniques that allow the design of intrinsically safe power chains, with prevention, protection and mitigation from electrical threats like arc flash, backfeed, fault currents, poor selectivity, maintenance and design induced errors; all achieved with equipment resilient to temperature extremes and compliant with the latest safety regulations.

The second hardware level represents the optimization made possible by Eaton engineers’ knowledge of the data center application. Eaton’s auto-adaptive critical power chain includes two proprietary technologies: Variable Module Management System (VMMS) and Energy Saver System (ESS) tools.

  • VMMS suspends UPS modules in an energised state, ready to go online to meet an increased load demand within 1.5 ms.
  • ESS holds UPSs ready to go if the utility grid transgresses tolerance limits.

These technologies deliver industry–leading energy savings that are delivered by engaging with Eaton’s engineers early in the design cycle.

UPSs are inevitable components of modern mission-critical data centers that must have the highest possible power availability to meet today’s 24/7 business expectations. They protect susceptible electronic equipment from power outages and disturbances, and from power interruptions during changeover of supply source.

This Paper shows designers, installers and users how to build single or multiple UPS modules into their power distribution system while maximizing availability and safety, and assuring safe and easy access for maintenance.
