Electrical equipment of machines: an overview of the updated European standard EN 60204-1

The new edition of 2019 of DIN EN 60204-1 contains some relevant innovations that must be taken into account when designing a machine or system. This includes, but is not limited to, interruption of power supply to prevent unexpected start-up, the implementation of the STOP function of a variable frequency drive by switching off the power on an EMERGENCY STOP, and equipment with residual current devices (RCD). In addition, the new version of DIN EN 60204-1 requires that the rated short-circuit current of all electrical equipment must be determined and specified. In addition, with the arrangement of switching devices, a heat calculation must now be carried out and a heat balance created. Other relevant changes can be found in the documentation and required reviews.

The whitepaper according to the update of the EN 60204-1 informs about all these innovations and gives practical tips for easy implementation.
